Bob Mitsven
Born and raised in San Diego, Mitsven first started surfing in 1967. Surfing the best breaks with friends around the area led to shaping his first board in 1972. It was also the year that he considers his defining moment in shaping. “In 1972, I rode my first 6’6” down rail board. It was just so responsive and you could push the board so much farther. It really opened the doors to what was possible.”
Since then it’s been 25 years honing his craft and steadily shaping custom surfboards. This time has included stints with shaping legends Dick Brewer and Dale Velzy.
With unique shaping tools and techniques, his focus has always been custom board building and pleasing his many customers. His following includes surfers from all ability levels…beginners to pros.
Mitsven is now a well known top shaper in Southern California and to a lesser extent elsewhere. A loyal following, “word of mouth”, and coverage on internet blogs and forums continue to fuel high demand for his expertise. Reserved, unassuming, and humble, Mitsven is simply a perfectionist custom surfboard builder drawing on his vast experience to make you the best board possible.
Regarded as a well rounded shaper, Mitsven has also grown a reputation as a premier fish builder. From a New York based blog…“A popular board in San Diego these days, the Bob Mitsven Quad fish is one big ol' fat sweet spot. Bog proof and loose, with blazing speed and nice bite from the wide swallow…”
Don’t forget to check out Mitsven’s Keel Fish for a beautiful wood fin, classic twin…and coming soon, a chambered cedar (wood) classic fish.
